Zambia
Zambia

Zambia, a landlocked country in Southern Africa, has a population of over 16 million people and a life expectancy at birth of 59 years (male) and 65 years (female). Medical care in Zambia is free or heavily subsidized, though the country is piloting a Universal Health Insurance scheme in an effort to improve quality of care; Zambia continues to suffer from malaria and the HIV/AIDS epidemic, as well as a significant growth in non-communicable diseases. The country joined the UHC Partnership in January 2016. WHO, through the UHC Partnership, has assisted the Ministry of Health in developing and implementing a National Health Strategic Plan (NHSP) 2017 – 2021. The simultaneous elaboration of a national compact aims to ensure harmonization of international aid, all aligned towards NHSP goals. You can access important country documents by clicking here.
