Jordan
Jordan

Jordan, in the Middle East has a population of 10 million people with a life expectancy at birth of 73 (male) and 76 (female). Jordan’s economic development and political stability have helped it build one of the strongest health sectors in the region, cutting maternal mortality in half over the past 20 years. Public primary health services are available and distributed across the country, but quality specialized care is concentrated in urban areas, with a weak referral system. Other challenges include an aging population and growing burden of chronic disease, as well as significant stress on public services placed by the influx of refugees from neighbouring countries. Jordan’s National Strategy of the Health Sector 2016-2020 places UHC as a long-standing strategic goal. The UHC Partnership has supported a review of the governance arrangements in the health sector and assessed the capacities of the Ministry of Health; this role has been taken into account for the formulation of the Ministry of Health’s Strategic Plan 2018–2022.  You can access important country documents by clicking here.
