The World Organisation for Animal Health, founded as OIE, is the intergovernmental organization responsible for improving animal health worldwide. WOAH provides technical support to Members requesting assistance with animal disease control and eradication operations, including diseases transmissible to humans. WOAH notably offers expertise to the poorest countries to help them control animal diseases that cause livestock losses, present a risk to public health and threaten other Members. The Regional Representation Office for Asia and the Pacific, Tokyo to support the health security in the region works closely with the tripartite partners and implements activities either jointly with the tripartite or with FAO and also on its own. The main strategies followed are as follows;
1. Strengthening national human and animal health systems towards operationalization of One Health through training and capacity building on surveillance, early detection and rapid response
2. Strengthening of national human and animal health capacities and services through the Evaluation of Performance of Veterinary Service (PVS) and Gap Analysis and Joint evaluation of IHR (WHO) and PVS
3. Support in early notification through World Animal Health Information System (WAHIS) and early warning through Global Early Warning System (GLEWS+)
4. Sharing of information and expertise through OFFLU (WOAH/FAO Global Network of Expertise on Animal Influenza)
5. Support countries on specific requests either in building their capacities or responding to disease emergencies.
