PQT/VCP March Update

Recently prequalified products 

Since the last update (December 2024), PQT/VCP has prequalified four new ITNs.

Further details can be found on the prequalification page for each product. 

New pipeline products 

New products in the PQT/VCP pipeline are: Mosquito Shield (SC Johnson), a spatial repellent containing transfluthrin; MD3 (GDM Health Products Ltd), an ITN treated with alpha-cypermethrin and chlorfenapyr; and Yorkool G1 Recycled LN (Tianjin Yorkool International Trading Co. Ltd.), an ITN treated with deltamethrin.

PQT/VCP target timelines for assessment and listing decision(s) are 365 WHO days from the date of acceptance for assessment. WHO days are defined as those days in which the product dossier is with WHO for assessment, i.e., does not include manufacturer time to respond to Requests for Information. 

Recently published documents 

The chlorfenapyr specification has been updated with the extension of the existing WHO chlorfenapyr TC specification to encompass the technical material produced by Shivalik Rasayan Limited. 

The cypermethrin specification and evaluation report of the cypermethrin technical material produced by Hemani Industries Limited. 

A template for submitting an ITN product manufacturing release specifications has been published. 

Updated documents 

The Mosquito coil (MC) specification template for proposers has been updated to reflect the most recent reference analytical methods (as per the templates' publication date).  As such, users of the Chemical and Microbial manuals are encouraged to refer to the templates as a reference point to identify if updated analytical methods are available. 

Implementation guidance related to physical durability tests snag strength and hole formation, as well as the ITN manufacturing release specifications and declaration of construction and sampling have been updated for clarity. 

Meetings and events 

PQT/VCP hosted a meeting focused on quality assessments in Geneva, Switzerland from 10-14 February. This meeting enabled timely advancement of assessments for those applications submitted by ITN manufacturers in response to the implementation plan of the WHO Guideline for prequalification assessments of ITNs. 

The latest full ASVCP meeting was held 17-21 March 2024 in Manila, Philippines. 

Both meetings resulted in the advancement of all pending applications in addition to the training of new assessors joining the group after the 2024 open call for applications.
