UHC in Africa: A Framework for Action

International Health Regulations (IHR) have a role in reducing the risk of emergencies and minimizing their potential damage, but recent assessments highlight important IHR core capacity shortcomings in African countries. For example, a recently Joint External Evaluation (JEE) in Ethiopia identified critical challenges in multi-sectoral engagement, integration of surveillance functions in human and animal health systems, and strengthening of laboratory capacity.
