Key objectives

This project will implement a series of activities of addressing the “human elements” of workforce capacity building in Africa. The project is expected to result in a sustainable, diverse, inclusive, competent and multisectoral biosafety, biosecurity and biological non-proliferation workforce necessary for responding to biological threats at the local levels across the African region including the establishment of a new undergraduate BSc degree program in Biosafety and Biosecurity.

2) Establishment of biosafety & biosecurity undergraduate degree framework, course curriculum, and secretariat at Masinde Muliro University of Science & Technology MUST in Kenya; outreach & advocacy materials for young scientists interested in career in biosafety & biosecurity

3) Online interactive risk-assessment risk-based decision-making tool;
biological risk-assessment certification exam sessions

4) Network of mentors and mentees engaged in UNODA/BWC Youth for Biosecurity Initiative; East African and West African regional biosafety networks implementing priority activities with local governments & Africa CDC
