REPORT OF THE_x000D_ LABORATORY SIMULATION EXERCISE (TABLE TOP AND SKILL DRILL)_x000D_ 30 and 31 JANUARY 2019, ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN_x000D_ The objectives of this part of the exercise were to:_x000D_ 1. Assess outbreak detection and specimen management during an outbreak in a remote village, including the links between surveillance and response systems and the public health laboratory sector._x000D_ 2. Assess communication and coordination mechanisms for specimen referral and information flow between district, provincial and national health authorities._x000D_

The main objective of the exercise is to test the coordinated response by healthcare specialists, as well as other relevant institutions, in a public health emergency of international concern caused by biological agent. Specifically, the simulation tested the system’s preparedness for handling and responding to a suspected case of Ebola._x000D_

Exercise Purpose_x000D_ The purpose of the GEOCX was to support participating PHEOCs in the assessment and improvement of their readiness to respond jointly and effectively to a global public health emergency._x000D_ Exercise Scope _x000D_ The exercise was a functional exercise which included PHEOCs of participating countries (players) as well as Health Ministries and EOCs of other relevant national government and non-government agencies and partners. Some WHO Regional Offices elected to participate as players in the exercise.
