Why have a Knowledge Network of NFPs?

  • Valuable and up-to-date knowledge can be found in the tacit knowledge that exists inside each individual - collectively, NFPs have more than 1000 years of experience to share!
  • The increased likelihood for individuals to communicate, the greater new knowledge, insights, and ideas will be created, shared, transferred, disseminated, and leveraged.
  • The Global Knowledge Network of IHR NFPs provides a platform to cultivate exchanges and contributes to building a repository of best practices, lessons learned, and relevant tools and resources.

What is WHO's role in the Global Knowledge Network of NFPs?

WHO understands the important role of NFPs in the implementation of the IHR, hence, in the Draft five-year strategic plan for public health and response, 2018 - 2023, Pillar 2 has one of it's objectives: ”to strengthen the global network of IHR NFPs” … will be achieved through “training and community-of-practice related activities led by the Secretariat”.

It further states that “the content of training courses and their accessibility will be expanded through the Health Security Learning Platform in the context of the Regulations; activities will include e-learning and real-time, multi-country exercises”.
