CO-CHAIRS OF NEW INDEPENDENT PANEL FOR PANDEMIC PREPAREDNESS & RESPONSE ANNOUNCED

At the WHO Member States briefing on Thursday, 9 July, Dr Tedros confirmed the formation of the Independent Panel for Pandemic Preparedness & Response (IPPR), which will evaluate the world's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Director-General also announced that the IPPR will be co-chaired by former President of Liberia Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and former Prime Minister of New Zealand Helen Clarke. Prime Minister Clark went to on lead the United Nations Development Programme and President Sirleaf is a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Commenting on the appointments, Dr Tedros  said:

 "I cannot imagine two more strong-minded, independent leaders to help guide us through this critical learning process.”
