World Bank GFF Webinar on Resource Mapping and Tracking Expenditure for COVID-19

WHO REMAP Tool Featured at World Bank GFF Webinar on Resource Mapping for COVID-19

The WHO Resource Mapping (REMAP) tool was highlighted to nearly 300 participants at the World Bank Global Financing Facilities (GFF) webinar in April on resource mapping and expenditure tracking for COVID-19, galvanizing interest from Member States and partners as WHO launches COVID-19 resource mapping in countries.

The first day of the April 29-30 webinar attracted 175 participants, including participation from 29 countries and numerous partner organizations. The second day of the webinar drew 121 participants from 27 countries. WHO presented the COVID-19 version of the REMAP tool both days and engaged in question and answer sessions.

For the past two years, WHO has used the REMAP tool to support countries in implementation of National Action Plans for Health Security (NAPHS). WHO has now adapted the tool for resource mapping and expenditure tracking of country COVID-19 preparedness and response plans. WHO is planning to launch a pilot program in Chad, Niger and Cote D’Ivoire for resource mapping of COVID-19 plans and national health strategies in collaboration with the World Bank and DFID’s Tackling Deadly Diseases in Africa (TDDAP) program. There are plans to soon expand the resource mapping for COVID-19 preparedness and response plans to other countries as well.

Mapping coronavirus-related investments and activities in the country will allow policymakers, donors and partners to see where the gaps exist and where more investment of financial and technical resources is needed. The tool will also be used for tracking and monitoring the implementation of the country’s COVID-19 plans.

The GFF secretariat reported that the WHO presentations during the webinar generated much interest among participants in the REMAP tool. WHO is also working with the World Bank/GFF and other stakeholders on a COVID-19 resource mapping and expenditure tracking checklist for the 36 GFF countries on what this type of exercise may entail and how information collected would be used to address the COVID-19 epidemics in a prompt way (in terms of resource mobilization, allocation and monitoring).
