WHO EMRO taking strides to ensure multi-sectoral health security in countries with protracted complex emergency situations
Date: 09-16 July 2018 Region Eastern Mediterranean Region Country Libya
Under the leadership of the Libyan National Center for Disease Control, 84 Libyan national experts from multiple multi-sectoral backgrounds and technical experts from WHO and other agencies came together to conduct an External Evaluation of the IHR Core Capacities and to come up with a national action plan for health security in Libya. After two months of intense preparations, the workshop had impressive exchanges of knowledge, commitment, expertise and readiness to enhance inter-sectoral coordination to achieve the goals of the health security action plan. This is a remarkable milestone both for Libya and as a lesson-learnt in IHR – related programming in countries with complex, protracted health and humanitarian emergencies. WHO will continue to support Libya on costing the NAPHS and implementing the priorities defined to build IHR-related capacities per the JEE scoring system and indicators
