OIE collaborates with the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History

Area of Work - Date: 09 July 2018 | Region - Country

On 17 May 2018, the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) welcomed the launch of the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History exhibition, “Outbreak: Epidemics in a Connected World”. It opened on Friday, 18 May 2018 in Washington DC, United States. Interested parties may freely reproduce the exhibition scheduled to end in 2021.

This major exhibition, presented through 15 graphic panels  and divided into four themes, namely, outbreak origins; stopping the spread; detection, response and containment; disease profiles, is an important component in the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History's Outbreak Initiative. The latter was developed in collaboration with the OIE and other global partners to raise awareness of the human, animal, and environmental factors that contribute to infectious disease epidemics.

To cement this collaboration further, the OIE produced a leaflet on the Outbreak exhibition distributed to participants of the 86th General Session of the World Assembly of National Delegates of the OIE from 20 to 25 May in Paris, France.
