Countries step up to tackle antimicrobial resistance

Area of Work - Date: 06 August 2018 | Region - Country

All countries irrespective of their income are making significant steps in tackling antimicrobial resistance but there are some serious gaps that need urgent action, according to a report released by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) and the World Health Organization (WHO). The report documents progress of 154 countries in addressing antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in domains including surveillance, education, monitoring and regulating consumption and use of antimicrobials in human health, animal health and production, as well as plants and the environment. This report summarizes the country responses to the second round of Tripartite self-assessment survey, which is a component of a broader approach for monitoring and evaluation of the global action plan on AMR.

All countries’ responses from both years are published in an open-access database, offering scope for in-country review with civil society and other stakeholders.  The report is available here.
