Jongno-gu, a “people-centered and luxurious city”, is a safe and healthy city, a fair and honest city, a participating autonomous city, and a cultural and artistic city. In response to the growing proportion of older adults, we are continually striving to develop an age-friendly policy to create a city where all age groups can live without inconveniences.

Based on the eight guidelines provided by WHO Global Network, we plan to establish and promote a three-year action plan by selecting a total of 57 projects including five strategic objectives and eight strategic execution projects. The five strategic objectives are framed around the idea of a “Warm, Safe HUMAN (Health, Urban, Mobile, Active and Network) 100 year-old city”. Each of them includes seven strategic execution projects targetting key areas such as Health and Local care, Outdoor spaces and housing, Transportation, Social Participation, Civic participation and Employment, Respect and Social inclusion, and Communication and Information.

We also plan to complement and strengthen preexisting projects in Jongno such as the city cleaning project, eco-friendly sidewalk/stair maintenance work and the dementia management project so that they may operate in a more age-friendly manner. We will also discover and promote more specialized new projects such as encouraging employment opportunities for older adults, the creation of a generation integration academy and “playgrounds” for older adults. Moreover, through continuous monitoring, we will analyze and evaluate projects to promote them with confidence. In the next three years, we are confident that Jongno-gu will be upgraded one step forward to a more age-friendly city.
