As a part of senior welfare service in Seocho-gu, we have been offering services to improve the quality of life of older adults through: (i) The senior center; (ii) Welfare support facilities; (iii) Culture and leisure complex center for new class of elders; and (iv) Consultation for an older individuals who live alone.

Seocho-gu has implemented innovative strategies to create an age-friendly city and achieve it’s goals. Based on the survey results from the development of the guideline for age-friendly cities/communities, we are planning the following major tasks aligned with each of the eight WHO priority areas:

1) Outdoor spaces and buildings: Checking the safety and maintenance of a public restroom, and the necessity of universal design applications;
2) Transportation: Research into the current status of public transportation to improve blind spots;
3) Housing: Establishment of a support system for age-friendly housing, and the development of multi-generational interactive residential complex;
4) Social participation: Expansion of current programs and policies for older people living alone in order to increase participation;
5) Respect and social inclusion: Establishment of an operation center and an inter-generational education center;
6) Civic participation and employment: Developing and expanding employment for highly educated older persons;
7) Communication and information: Providing regular information needed for the aged, and placement of information managers to address the needs of the older population, such as public facilities kiosks and digital literacy training;
8) Community and health services: Construction of nursing facilities for older people, and simplification of the service usage procedures.
