In order to create an age-friendly Michuhol-gu, a survey of general citizens and older adults was conducted. For general citizens, 219 people between the ages of 20 and were chosen in addition to 421 older adults aged 65 to 89 years old.  The participants’ place of residence and genders were also taken into account to ensure results were as reflective of the diversity of the overall population as possible.

Contents of the survey included the 8 guidelines/domains for age-friendliness as outlined by the WHO. Each participant was asked to provide a ratio score (positive and negative) and an average score (up to five points) as it related to the current percieved status across these domains. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic surveys were made available virtually to participants however face to face surveys (CAPI) were also utilized to ensure that digital literacy did not prove a significant barrier to participation.

Focus Group Interviews, FGIs, were also implemented. Two groups were formed categorized by gender. Each group consisted of 10 participants. During the interviews, 4 main questions were discussed:

  1. Opinions on living conditions in Michuhol-gu
  2. Opinions about the level of age-friendliness in Michuhol-gu
  3. Opinions on regional gaps/disparities in Michuhol-gu
  4. Satisfaction of Michuhol-gu’s current policies.

Various opinions were shared and can be found alongside survey results in the baseline assessment for Michuhol-gu.
