To improve the quality of life of older adults, Geumcheon-gu has been implementing the following policies:

  • Operate Tongtong Welfare Call Center, which is the first welfare-specialized consultation call center in the autonomous district,
  • Establish Geumcheon Neighborhood Welfare Platform as a project to strengthen on-site communication and improve the safety net and the visiting community center project, and
  • Form Tongtong Hope Naraedan, a one-stop Geumcheon-type welfare delivery system from consultation to service and so on. Based on the survey results from the development of the guideline for age-friendly cities, we are planning to focus on the following eight significant tasks:
    • Outdoor Spaces and Buildings: Establish (i) safe walking and living environment, (ii) facility used for convenience, and (iii) sustainable residences in local communities;
    • Transportation: Establish (i) an age-friendly transportation environment, and (ii) social consideration for safe driving;
    • Housing: Ensure residential stability for older adults including those with disabilities, and establish a safe living environment;
    • Social Participation: Expand (i) convenience of access to social participation, and (ii) various social activities to strengthen relationships;
    • Respect and Social Inclusion: Activate participation of parties in the local community, encourage respect for older adults by putting forward positive representations and combatting ageism;
    • Civic Participation and Employment: Create jobs for older adults, expand the opportunities for participation in jobs by older adults, and lead the local community of older citizens;
    • Communication and Information: Provide age-friendly information, and resolve digital alienation; and
    • Community and Health Services: Expand (i) visiting services and first aid for older adults, (ii) customized health services, and (iii) community care services.
