Age-friendly cities and communities – a global perspective, edited by Tine Buffel, Sophie Handler and Chris Phillipson, is an invaluable resource for anybody interested in having a better understanding of the history of the global age-friendly movement, its successes and challenges, but perhaps most importantly a clear and insightful agenda for future action. Much has been achieved – much remains to be done – but one thing is clear: current and future efforts to create age-friendly environments must recognize the great diversity in older adults and overcome, rather than reinforce, inequities in health and circumstance.
