Adding life to years

Summary

The Municipality of Esbjerg is working with developers to integrate the planning of different neighborhoods to help support social interaction across generations.

We are currently building a new care center for older people centered in a local environment where citizens with special care needs can be embedded in the community and live next to families, children, students and other citizens in a care free area. The homes will have integrated technology solutions to assist with everyday activities, and within the area a drop-in nursing center, doctors and training facilities will be accessible. It is our vision that the nursing center will function as an activity center and will serve as a meeting place for the surrounding community.

The medical clinic will be up and running by December 2020, followed by the care center with 104 individual homes. A private developer is building 76 age-friendly apartments focusing on the following key areas:

  • Senior safety
  • Comfort
  • Living close to nature
  • Proximity to services
  • Community and fellowship
