Summary

Naju City is currently in its third year of implementing the Age-Friendly Strategic Plan. Our goal is to make a safe and friendly city that enables physically frail older people to live independently.

According to the Survey of living conditions of Seniors(2019), two in ten seniors are injured in falls in Korea. Many sustain significant injuries, to the point that falls are the leading cause of injury-related death among seniors.

To reduce the risk of falls, especially at Senior Citizen Centers, which promote healthy ageing by giving older people access to multiple resources to help them stay active and independent, we have installed a total of more than 1,900 safety handles at about 610 senior citizen centers since 2020. As a result, the Seniors Citizen Centers have become much safer meeting places for older people to connect with peers and the community.
