Outdoor safety, outdoor seating and services to the public

Summary

In December 2016, the project team “Age-Friendly-Cities” of Radevormwald started its work. Until May 2017, the project group met six times. The AFC-program was also featured in civic events and in meetings with city council parties. Since 2017 the AFC-program has made progress across all of the 8 domains of livability (Outdoor spaces and buildings, Transportation, Housing, Social participation, Respect and social inclusion, Civic participation and employment, Communication and information, Community and health services). highlighted below are some concrete solutions that have been established towards the dimension of “outdoor spaces and buildings”:

  • At the initiative of the Senior Citizen Council, all seats have now been newly furnished with backrests. (pic 1)
  • Regular inspection tours of the Senior Citizen Council have been conducted to identify obstacles for older citizens.
  • Efforst have been made to lower the height of curbs and lay special paving stones to increase accessibility and safety for the visually impaired. The administration has several pedestrian crossings in the city that are now equipped with special white pebbles so that visually impaired individuals can better see and feel the way. • Two parks have been equipped with new lighting to increase safety and use.
  • All restaurants allow free use of the toilet. Additional barrier free toilets have been established in the House of Meeting Center “Hürxthal” and renovations of public toilets in “Oststraße” (eaststreet) have been conducted. Additionally, there are two public toilets, open 7 days a week and cleaned at least once a day within the city center.
