Summary

“Elder home” is a social care centre in which older people can participate in courses such as painting, decorative painting, latin dance, local dance, choir, or morning exercise. In addition to that, we are organizing “read a poem” days, seminars about life-long learning, art exhibits (in which they present the pieces of art that they made), and various intergenerational activities. The “Elder Home” initiative of Muratpasa Municipality provides opportunities to socialize, and to improve the capabilities and capacities of people age 60+. Our Elder Home opened in October 2014. Up to today, we have 1300 members who are actively benefiting from the activities and courses offered. They feel more productive, more sociable and happier. They feel that they contribute, are important and they show that productivity never ends.Today, we have 3 Elder Home branches in different districts of Muratpasa Municipality. We selected the places according to the needs of population. One of our branch is in a poorer neighbourhood, the other was established in middle-income neighbourhood and the last one is in a high-income neighbourhood. The important thing is to recognize the target group and to understand what they need and to plan the most appropriate program for them.
