The Municipality of Alexandroupolis takes special care of older persons as a large percentage of older people experience loneliness due to unsupportive environments. In remote settlements the largest percentage of the population is older people, with many of these older persons not having relatives in the Municipality of Alexandroupoli. Most older persons in the municipality state that their children have migrated either to a larger urban center in Greece or abroad.
The cultural identity of the Thracian Greek is characterized by high sociability. Seoul City began implementing the project to build an age-friendly city in 2010, and, in June 2013, Seoul became the first Korean city (and only the third in Asia) to become a member of the WHO Global Network of Age-friendly Cities and Communities (GNAFCC). In the course of the preparations for joining the membership of the GNAFCC, Seoul City placed considerable emphasis on the importance of senior citizens’ direct participation in policy decisions. Are you a new or emerging leader of age-friendly cities and communities? Do you want to join a community of age-friendly champions and develop the skills required to create better places to grow, live, work, play, and age?
Participate in the Age-friendly Environments ECHO Programme (AFE-ECHO): a multi-session learning cycle part of the MENTOR-AFE programme aligned with the latest approaches and guidance on age-friendly environments from WHO. Participants will be taken through the main components of the WHO age-friendly framework by global experts. Each session will also create a space for participants to apply what they learn through collaborative problem-solving.
The third round of AFE-ECHO in English is currently running from 15 October to 10 December 2024.

The State Institute for Older Adults of Nuevo León (IEPAM) is a decentralised public body in charge of implementing public policies aimed at ensuring the comprehensive development of older adults in the State of Nuevo León. IEPAM coordinates with different public and private institutions in the state through municipal and state liaisons that allow us to coordinate programmes and projects in favour of a more active and healthy ageing with a human rights perspective. IEPAM is currently working together with 5 municipalities in the metropolitan area of Monterrey (San Pedro Garza García, Monterrey, Santa Catarina, San Nicolás de los Garza and Apodaca) in the Project: Global Network of Age-Friendly Cities and Communities.
