WHO has prequalified the first two spatial emanators products, Mosquito Shield and Guardian, manufactured by SC Johnson & Son, Inc., alongside the publication of the WHO recommendation supporting the deployment of this intervention class in vector control programmes for malaria. With the rising demand for new vector control tools, PQT/VCP prequalified Mosquito Shield in just 14 weeks and Guardian in nine months (WHO time), well ahead of the target 12-month timeline – demonstrating a strong commitment to supporting global health efforts and ensuring the availability of quality assured products.
The prequalification decision is expected to support procurement decisions at international, regional, and national levels by UN and partner procurement agencies, as well as member states, ultimately enabling faster and broader access to these products in communities with urgent needs.
This is an important milestone in the prevention focused impacts of vector control programmes through the expansion of the available vector control toolbox to include new product types which can complement traditional vector control interventions.
The WHO Public Assessment Reports presenting the full quality, safety and efficacy assessments of each submitted product can be found on the product pages for each product in the list of prequalified Vector Control Products.
