Bio

Shinichi Tomioka works as a part-time consultant for the World Health Organization (WHO) Centre for Health Development in Kobe since March 2021. He provides technical support in the area of metrics and measurement to accelerate global progress towards UHC in the context of population ageing. He received a medical doctor degree from Kyushu University and has work experience as a physician at Musashino Red Cross Hospital and Tokyo Metropolitan Bokutoh Hospital. Then he joined the Matsushita Institute of Government and Management to work as associate to carry out the research on medical care in ageing society. Besides the medical expertise, he received double master's degrees in science from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (in Health Policy, Planning and Financing), and the London School of Economics and Political Science (in Social Policy and Planning). He also received a doctorate degree in medicine from the University of Occupational and Environmental Health. After the research fellowship at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, he worked as Assistant Professor for Public Health at UOEH and Hiroshima University. While working in home medical care as an internal medicine specialist, he is currently pursuing his research, in collaboration with national and local governments, to develop health policies to contribute to the data-based health systems as well as ideal primary care systems.
