Dr Irene Akua Agyepong is a public health physician. She received her Medical training from the University of Ghana Medical School, a Masters in Community Health from the University of Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and a doctor in Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a global leader in the field of health policy and systems research. Currently a member of the Global Burden of Disease Independent Advisory Committee, Dr Agyepong also served as a member of the Advisory Group for the WHO Global Strategy for Health Systems Research (2011-2012) as well as member (2006–2009) and chair (2009–2013) of the Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee of the Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research and chair Health Systems Global 2012-2014.
