Sharjah Social Affairs enhances its dental treatment services for bedridden elderly citizens in the emirate
The Social Services Department in Sharjah has enhanced its dental treatment service for bedridden people with a new service that will be added to the list of distinguished services provided by the department to the elderly (over 60 years old).
After the free dental treatment service for senior citizens in the emirate, which is available at the University Dental Hospital at the University of Sharjah, an agreement was reached with the hospital to provide dental treatment service for bedridden people in their homes to avoid the hassle of transportation, save time, and maintain their health and the health of their teeth. The service has started September,2023.
A specialized medical team equipped with all the necessary medical tools will head to the home of the bedridden person to examine him, treat him, and provide him with medication.
Health Services Office at the Sharjah Social Services Department, stressed the great interest that the department pays to senior citizens in the emirate and follows up on their conditions and situations as well as their needs, and works to provide them as soon as possible. Hence, this service came about, which is a development of the medical and therapeutic dental services provided by the department to senior citizens in Sharjah and its eastern and central regions, which were launched a year ago by a decision of the Executive Council of the Government of Sharjah, and pursuant to an agreement between the department and the University Dental Hospital – University of Sharjah, for the department to provide direct financial support for medical and therapeutic dental services for senior citizens, which includes medical and therapeutic dental services provided by the University Dental Hospital in Sharjah, and based on the keenness of both parties to support and enhance medical and therapeutic services for senior citizens with the aim of preserving their health and safety and supporting their families.
Health services office stated that the number of beneficiaries of the dental treatment service who have crossed the 60-year barrier has reached 12,614 senior citizens, since the launch of the service in June 2022, with the number of visits reaching about 5,259 visits to benefit from the treatment service, which varied between gum treatment, root canal treatment, dental prosthetics, oral and dental surgery, and preventive dental treatments. She noted that all medical problems related to this aspect are received at the University Dental Hospital, excluding cosmetic purposes, and if the patient’s treatment value exceeds 30,000 dirhams, a certified medical report on the patient’s condition must be attached in order to obtain approval from the committee.
