On October 24, the 5th Provincial Sports Olympics for Seniors was held in Opole in the Stegu Arena hall

On October 24, the 5th Provincial Sports Olympics for Seniors was held in Opole in the Stegu Arena hall. 14 teams of 6 players in each team took part in it. The players were seniors from all over the province. They were also supported by seniors – their colleagues. From 9:00 am, the participants could register. The official opening took place at 10:00 am – the announcer welcomed the arriving officials and the gathered players and fans. After it, the presentation of all teams took place: the parade was started by the chairwoman of the Council of Seniors of the City of Opole, Teresa Rozmarynowska. The Olympic flag was brought by the managers of the Homes for Daily Residence: Ingryda Bożek, Edyta Solarska – Halaba, Katarzyna Sawicka and the manager of the Information and Education Center “Senior in Opole” Małgorzata Jarosz – Basztabin. The Olympic torch was lit by athletes: Janusz Trzepizur and Bartłomiej Bonk. Edmund Wajde, the representative of the seniors, took the oath, after which the guests took the floor. The opening of the Olympics was crowned with a laser show prepared especially for this occasion on the pitch. After it, the teams entered the sports competition. This year, seniors could compete in the following competitions: Target Throw, Fitball Slalom, Floorball Slalom, Javelin Target, Pendulum Relay and Ball Table Tennis Racket Run.

The winning teams received cups:

  • The first place went to the team from DDP “Malinka” and DDP “Złota Jesień” from Opole,
  • 2nd place went to the Senior + Club from Strzelce Opolskie and the Korfant Senior Club,
  • 3rd place Miss and Mistera 60+ Club and Senior Club at the Intra Foundation.

The cups were also awarded to Mr. Józef, aged 95, and the senior lady, aged 93, as the oldest players. The gathered seniors emphasized that the Olympics are an opportunity for them to have fun, create the opportunity to integrate, meet in a wider group with seniors from various backgrounds from all over the voivodeship.
