The city Zreče is located in the north-eastern part of Slovenia under the hills of Pohorje in the Dravinja valley. The Settlement was developed in the past 25 years from villages Zgornje Zreče, Spodnje Zreče and Dobrava and became a city in 1987. The municipality of Zreče is comprised of six local communities: Zreče, Stranice, Gorenje, Skomarje, Resnik and Dobrovlje. The seat of the municipality is placed in the city of Zreče. This is a young Slovenian town inspired by a successful economy and the development of tourist activities, which includes Sport centre and climatic spa Rogla and Zreče Thermal Spa.

Zreče municipality is best known for its tourist and industrial activity. The municipality has about 6.500 inhabitants and offers 4.000 jobs. Zreče is surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes and forests, offering numerous green corners for relaxation and recreation.

In the municipality of Zreče, we are facing the problem of the aging population. In the future we want to actively promote activities for healthy, active and dignified aging of our citizens. One way was to join the Slovenian network of age-friendly cities and communities and to adopt a five-year development plan in the field of aging and intergenerational relations. We also formed a local honorary senior committee, consisting of a group of about 20 deserving citizens, who are willing to cooperate in the establishment and development of this plan.

In the Municipality of Zreče we carried out various activities for quality aging. Our municipality is friendly to disabled persons (associated to project since 2010), we are implementing various programs for the elderly (for example Seniors for Seniors – the Slovenian federation of pensioners’ associations). In 2017 we have interconnected most of the activities and founded the multi-generation center of Zreče. It is a connecting point between the community, associations, organizations and also between older and younger people.
