A working group has been formed by local senior service units for promoting the concept of Age-Friendly Cities (AFC) among the elderly and public since 2011. All activities launched by the working group are supported and recognized by Yau Tsim Mong District Council. Up till now, over 80 elderly residents have been trained as AFC ambassadors and they are the main force in fostering the age-friendly city agenda in Yau Tsim Mong District. As of July 2017, over 300 relevant workshops, talks, programs and activities were conducted and the number of beneficiaries has reached 20,000 approximately.

Also, a cross generation service learning project has been conducted by the working group and the Department of Environment and Civil Engineering of Hong Kong Polytechnic University since 2012. Over 200 students and 600 elderly residents are involved in community study activities for exchange of the views on AFC. Both students and elderly residents are benefited from the project. We believed that the impacts of the project are sustainable and wide applicable.

Moreover, the “Jockey Club Age-friendly City Project” has been launched in Yau Tsim Mong District in 2017 in order to encourage the general public to acquire knowledge on age-friendly city and share the concepts of age-friendly city in the community. Professional support teams have prepared a baseline assessment report for the district and will guide the district concerned to develop a three-year action plan and support the district in taking forward age-friendly initiatives. In future, Yau Tsim Mong District Council will establish a regular platform to enhance the level of participation of elderly ambassadors for their expression of opinions on AFC.
