The Town of Stonewall is a great place to call home. The Town is located along Provincial Trunk Highway 67 with a population of 4,809 (as of the 2016 Census) and growing! Stonewall is just 25 kilometers north of Manitoba’s capital city, Winnipeg. Stonewall offers its residents a friendly, quiet rural alternative to life in the big city. Stonewall was founded in 1878, and was officially incorporated in 1908.
Rockwood is a rural municipality lying north of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It is part of the Winnipeg Capital Region and had a 2011 census population of 7,964. The independently governed towns of Stonewall and Teulon are both enclaved within Rockwood.
A councillor from both the Town and Municipality sit on our Age Friendly committee giving support and encouragement to keep our community age friendly through Senior Resource, 55 Plus Activity Centre, Community meetings, and Accessibility Plans. We have good senior independent housing and looking forward to more supportive and personal care homes.

• June 2015 – New Horizons for Seniors Grant for senior playground equipment in Stonewall, Stony Mountain and Balmoral.
• June 2015 – Age Friendly Connecting Communities Interlake District in Gimli.
• Sept 2015 – Walking Club initiated and partnered with 55+, incorporating Exercise Equipment.
• December 2015 – Exploring the Continuum of Senior’s Engagement (Isolation).
• March 2016 – “Steppin’ Out” brochure with map of sidewalks and trails; Exercise plaques.
• April 2016 – Participated in the South Interlake Business Expo. Good exposure and inside.
• Accessibility for Manitobans Act – Workshop April 13.
• May 2016 – 33rd Annual Centre on Aging Spring Research Symposium, U of M.
• August 2016 – Bus tour on Handivan during Quarry Days to Standard Limestone Quarries.
• September 14, 2016 – Caregiver presentation at Stonewall Library.
• October 14, 2016 – Presentation on, It’s Not Right! Neighbours, Friends & Families for Older Adults; Keeping Seniors Safe from Elder Abuse.
• Finance: Noventis Credit Union in Gimli.
• October 26, 2016 – Interlake Region Age-Friendly Connecting Communities Day in Teulon hosted by Seniors and Healthy Aging Secretariat, MB.
• December 5, 2016 – Presentation on Palliative Care.
• January 17, 2017 – A core group of Palliative Care board and Age Friendly was initiated to gather information and study the feasibility of a Palliative Care Hospice.
• January 19, 2017 Conference: Self-Care for the Caregiver.
• February 2017 – SCAM PREVENTION poster.
• April 22, 2017 Presentation, “Helping Families Care for Seniors” Excellent website. Where Next? A Path for Caregivers.
• April 2017 – Bike Rack at 55+.
• May 1, 2017 – Let No One Be Alone week. Partnered with South Interlake Senior Resource and South Interlake Fifty-Five Plus to hold a ‘coffee break’.
