Ageing is a multi-faceted issue which cuts across several domains such as health, social and employment. Hence, Singapore plans our response to ageing holistically through cross-sector collaboration. In 2015, our Ministerial Committee on Ageing (MCA) launched the Action Plan for Successful Ageing, a national blueprint which aspires to transform the ageing experience  on three levels:

At the individual level, we recognise that health is key to good quality of life in old age and enables seniors to continue leading meaningful lives. Hence, beyond building capacity for healthcare services, we have shifted our focus to preventive health and active ageing, to enable seniors to stay active and engaged.

At the community level, we strive to establish a caring and inclusive society that respects and embraces our seniors. By promoting community befriending, establishing dementia-friendly communities and promoting inter-generational harmony, Singapore seeks to empower our seniors to age gracefully, supported by the communities in which they live.

At the national level, we hope to transform Singapore into an age-friendly city where Singaporeans can age-in-place confidently, by enhancing our offering of aged care services, and systematically refreshing our housing estates, transport system and parts to ensure that seniors can move about safely and independently.

We will continue to ensure that our ageing policies remain relevant and centred on the needs of seniors. Moving ahead, we are future-proofing our policies by refreshing the Action Plan for seniors of today and tomorrow. Planning for ageing is an ongoing journey, and everyone can play a part.  Singapore will continue to rally people from all walks of life, including the public, people and private sector to redefine ageing as a positive force. We strive to not only add years to life, but life to years.
