Aiming to become a city Sabadell designed and owned by the elderly, Sabadell City Council requested following the mandate of the Municipal Council of 27 April 2017 which was adopted unanimously, accede to the World Network of Cities friendly to the elderly WHO.

Be Friendly City for the elderly entails the commitment to prepare to be a city Sabadell friendly and respectful of the needs and abilities of older people reaching the city that is the source of promoting active aging.

 The methodology proposed by the WHO for the development of friendly Cities project elderly differs in three phases to develop in cycles of five years:

  • The planning phase (year 1-2)
  • The implementation phase (years 3, 4 and 5)
  • The evaluation phase (end of the 5th year)

 What have we done?

During this first phase of planning, which began in 2017 until today, we have developed a series of actions:

  1. Diagnosis of the situation of the elderly.
  2. Design of the action plan with specific objectives and actions to be developed in the period 2019-2021.
  3. Preparation of an infographic that expresses graphically and visually the result of the process.
  4. Definition of a system management plan on the basis of indicators allows to collect the necessary information for monitoring and evaluation of performance.

 As we have done?

  1. Socio-demographic analysis:
    Statistical exploitation of different sources of information that allow us to take a picture of the demographic reality of the city of Sabadell in general and the elderly of the town in particular.
  2. Poll:
    Making a representative survey of a sample of 200 elderly people in the municipality with which it strives to items relating to different areas of work covered by the network methodology (forms of interaction and coexistence, health, mobility, the new technologies, economic needs and support needs).
  3. Working groups
    Realization of 4 workshops with professionals from different areas of the City during the month of May with the participation of 35 professionals.
  4. Collection and evaluation reports and indicators.
  5. Focus Groups
    Conducting 11 focus groups that have had a participation of approximately 120 people.

 PLAN AND + 60

The plan, + 60 and for seniors is valid Sabadell planned three years from 2019 to 2021, and transversal arises following a participatory approach of the elderly, as proposed by the WHO, following seven axes or dimensions that bring together a total of 78 actions already undertaken or about 53 up to 25 planned to develop in the coming years.

The axes provided for in the plan are:

  • Accessibility and use of public and private spaces: 20 actions
  • Housing 10 actions
  • Mobility and transportation 9 actions
  • Social and civic participation: 17 actions
  • Respect, equality and mutual help and support conditions: 11 actions
  • Social services and health: 6 actions
  • Communication and information: four actions
