The population aging process is a remarkable fact in today’s societies. The changes in the demographic and epidemiological profiles of the world population require new perspectives on old age and changes in the ways of thinking about public policies. In this sense, there is a growing concern on of governments about actions aiming at maintaining the autonomy and independence of older adults, as well as policies to ensure a better quality of life for this portion of the population. At the same time, there is a movement by civil society to expand and implement public policies related to older adults. The Municipality of Renascença, having as a basic premise the need to establish parameters and objectives for the development of the Aging Action Plan, considers intersectoriality as a fundamental element both in the elaboration and in its execution. Current local data, the profile and needs of older adults and the existing service network served as a basis to produce knowledge and point out the necessary paths for the promotion of initiatives aiming to reduce risk factors and to promote healthy aging for individuals from Renascença. In this direction, the proposal of this Plan is to develop actions integrated with the older adults’ service network, in the areas of education, health, social service, work, justice and public security/safety, with the objective of providing the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Brazilian Federal Constitution (art. 227) and the Older Adults Statute. Therefore, the actions that will be implemented aim to improve and consolidate an articulated and integrated service network for older adults and the implementation of effective social and protective actions. The Plan aims to ensure that the population of the municipality can age safely and with dignity and that older adults can continue participating in their society and community as citizens with full rights.
