Committed To Becoming More Age-Friendly
In 2013, the older adult program was created in the Department of Community Development of the Municipality of Quillon. This program integrates social inclusion and support for vulnerable elderly people.
The municipality of Quillon has a large rural population which is a geographical barrier for the elderly. We built four new inclusive social centers, fitted the Avendaño lagoon with amphibian chairs with universal access principles that allows older people with accessibility challenges access to water. We also created a home telecare program, mental health self-care days, and a condominium of sheltered housing is currently being built for more independent older people. The municipality belongs to the regional committee of elderly persons. The Older Adult Program also promotes the institutional bureau for the elderly, promoting self- management of illness through state projects and also private funding. We promote travel tourism program to different cities in the country, recreational activities for the elderly such as celebration of the day of the elderly, participation in artistic and cultural activities such a dance, theatre, folklore, crafts, and tango. Other activities include exchanges with groups of older people from other communes, summer activities, training seminars on legal issues and other issues of interest to the age group.
For vulnerable older people, we provide social assistance: feeding assistance, adult diapers, medication supply, psychosocial support in urgent cases, suitable professionals available for their needs and other programs in partnership with the family health center.
The commune intends to be inclusive in constructive and social terms, starting with the adaptation of streets, sidewalks, access to public and private services, increasing green areas, intergenerational encounters with children, participation in organizations among other actions.
