In 2014, Pitkin County launched an Aging Well Community Plan that included 14 goals covering the areas of Safety, Connection, Health & Wellness and Information. Each goal identifies several action items, responsible entities and possible partners in accomplishing the goal. From 2014 through the present, work associated with the 160+ action items continues and the goals are at various levels of completion. Safety included action items in the areas of the physical home, community, accessibility, abuse/neglect, fraud/scams and education. ‘Connection included action items in the areas of community engagement, multiple generations, transportation, volunteering, life-long learning and friendships. ‘Health/Wellness included action items in medical resources, dental/vision/hearing, mental health, fitness, nutrition, in-home services and caregiver support. ‘Information included action items regarding access to information and resources, navigation of current systems, personal assistance, Internet information, education and advocacy.
In accomplishing the action items articulated in these goals, Pitkin County will become more age-friendly through the programs and services identified, developed and/or enhanced through the plan.
