Committed To Becoming More Age-Friendly
Padawan Municipal Council Malaysia
Padawan Municipal Council fully supports the Sarawak Government’s initiatives aimed at enhancing services for older adults, including the promotion of the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system and the Kenyalang Gold Card programme, which provides discounts at selected stores throughout the state. These initiatives play an important role in improving mobility, affordability, and overall quality of life for older adult citizens, enabling them to remain active and engaged members of society.
At the council level, Padawan Municipal Council places strong emphasis on creating inclusive and age-friendly environments. Public landscape spaces are thoughtfully designed to support community use across all age groups, from children to the elderly, by incorporating safe walkways, adequate seating areas, shaded rest spots, barrier-free access, and exercise facilities suitable for older adults. Such features encourage active ageing, promote social interaction, and foster healthier lifestyles within the community while reducing isolation among older persons.
In addition, the Council has introduced the Elderly Easy Payment (EEP) scheme as part of its smart parking system. This initiative is designed to verify the identity of older adult drivers and link their registered vehicles to their children’s mobile wallets, providing a convenient and supportive solution for motorists. Under the EEP scheme, older adult drivers can simply park and go without needing to use a mobile phone or parking application, reducing technological barriers while maintaining efficiency. This also reflects the Council’s broader efforts to build a caring and digital-driven community that ensures no one is left behind in technological advancements.
Through these measures, and with its participation as a member of the Age-Friendly Cities and Communities (AFCC) network, Padawan Municipal Council continues to strengthen its commitment to building a supportive, accessible, and age-friendly city that promotes dignity, independence, and well-being for its ageing population, both now and in the future.
