Municipality of Straža (Občina Straža) Slovenia
The Municipality of Straža implements the following programs and services targeted at older people to work towards an age-friendly municipality:
- Programs for the care of sick and older people with disabilities:
- Social protection of those in need (Center for Social Work Dolenjska and Bela krajina, Novo mesto unit)
- Social care service assistance to families at home in the Municipality of Straža (tailored to the needs of individual older beneficiaries)
- Institutional care for older people
- Activities provided by the Red Cross and Karitas Vavta vas
- Programs for active and healthy ageing of retired citizens and the strengthening of intergenerational cooperation:
- Volunteer drivers (intended to increase the mobility of citizens over the age of 65)
- E-care social security service at a distance (supports older people, individuals living with disabilities, patients with chronic diseases, patients recovering from major surgeries, and people living with dementia)
- Community centre in the Municipality of Straža (intended to increase socialization , maintain social contacts, and provide various activities for older and younger citizens)
- Organization of meetings for older citizens in the Municipality of Straža
To ensure quality of life and decent ageing, the municipality has created a Strategic Development Program (2022-2027) to improve the living conditions in the municipality, with an emphasis on new forms of living, healthy ageing, and intergenerational cooperation.
With a proactive approach, the Municipality of Straža will go beyond the legal obligations of the local community and create a community that respects older citizens and offers many opportunities and support for healthy ageing towards enhancing quality of life.
