The Municipality of Ruše is the founder of two public institutions:

  1. The Rast Ruše Institute for Strengthening Social Protection, Culture and Intergenerational Integration: As a public institution established by the Municipality of Ruše, it is the point of contact for the implementation of various programs and projects. It is also a place for the gathering of local society, which in the field of social welfare and culture, strengthens personal values, intergenerationally connects and satisfies the needs of various individuals, families, and older people, which thereby raises the quality of life of each individual.
  2. The Ruše Sports Park in Ruše is a public institution that is surrounded by mountains and water. This unique ambiance makes it one of the greener and more well-kept parks in the area, which offers shelter to many clubs and societies for the development of top-class sports and sports recreation in the city, along the River Drava. With existing, new and modernized indoor and outdoor sports surfaces, the Ruše Sports Park Public Institution offers a well-rounded sports offer for all generations. The Municipality of Ruše strongly cooperates with pupils and teachers of physical education, high school level chemistry and pharmacy, alongside RUŠE and the Elementary school ‘Janka Glazerja Ruše’ and other societies in area to enhance this institution’s abilities in providing opportunities for different generations to participate.

The municipality of Ruše showed interest in joining the HEALTHY PLACE project and signed it with a letter of intent on 23 September 2005. With an official certificate dated 31 January 2006, the Municipality of Ruše became a regular member of ‘Phase IV. Implementation phases of the WHO Slovenian Network of Healthy Cities program’ in the period between 2003-2007. Phase V was not officially activated due to system issues, but the Municipality of Ruše nevertheless carried out activities throughout this time. In November 2017, the Ministry of Health once again transferred the coordination of the Slovenian network of healthy cities to the National Institute of Public Health OE Maribor.

The task of the national coordinator of ZM (Doc. Dr. Zlatko Zimet) was to revitalize the National Network of Healthy Cities in terms of renewed cooperation between the national coordinator and the members and the revival of activities. The WHO Healthy Cities Project has been operating since 1989 and in 2014 it entered Phase VI. (2014 – 2018). This phase was designed in accordance with the goals of the new European strategy for health and well-being called “Health 2020” with the aim of transferring the basic principles to the local environment. With the letter of intent, we also officially approached this phase. By signing the letter of intent on January 28, 2019, we also confirmed our participation in the Slovenian Network of Healthy Cities project in Phase VII. (2019 – 2024). The proposed goals and tasks in this phase are set broadly and emphasize the 6Ps of our Municipality: People, Place, Participation, Prosperity, Peace, and Planet.

Through the decisions of the Mayor of Ruše, the Ruše healthy city project council and the local health promotion group (LKSZ) were appointed.

Under the project name, PROSTOFER, the Municipality of Ruše has carried out various health promotion and prevention activities and has included: various lectures, workshops, a 2 km run, a walk along the Heart Path, Earth Day, Day for Change, and a Day Without Cigarettes. Additionally, the Municipality of Ruše has also been providing older people with free transportation to doctor’s appointments under this project’s mandates.
