Monaghan Age Friendly county programme conducted an in depth public consultation process with older people, advocates and service providers in the county to identify the issues impacting on our older population in the county. The consultation led to the development of a targeted Monaghan Age Friendly strategy 2013-2018 which set out to address these issues. This strategy has successfully been implemented and we are now in the final stages of the development of a second Age friendly strategy for the county. Monaghan Age Friendly Strategy placed an emphasis on finding solutions to issues raised during the consultation process, and in identifying leaders for each action. Older people were at the heart of the Strategy, their responses and contributions were vital to development and implementation of the actions within the strategy. The consultations with older people and organisations working with them gave Monaghan Age Friendly Alliance the vision partnership and a clear statement of aims and approaches, and an outline of practical and cost-effective ways to achieve them. In the Monaghan Age Friendly Strategy each action was assigned to a lead partner and support partners. The first Age Friendly Strategy for County Monaghan contained thirty strategic actions to be delivered over the period 2012-2018. Twenty-six of these actions have been progressed to date. Since its establishment in 2011, Monaghan Age Friendly programme has progressed to be one of the leading Age Friendly Programmes in the country. Monaghan has shared the learning and experience of our successful initiatives with our colleagues across the country.
