The Municipal Office for the Elderly in Los Andes was created with the allocation of a special municipal budget to complete the following four actions:

1. Promotion of rights and good treatment;
2. Prevention;
3. Productive support;
4. Support for organizations.

The Office encourages the participation of older adults and offers a range of activities for the elderly including:

• Municipal Choir of the elderly
• Workshop on physical activity and cognitive stimulation
• Hydrotherapy workshop
• Workshops for leaders
• Travel and outdoor activities
• Dances and parties
• Sports activities, bullfights and hikes
• Subsidies to the 71 senior organizations
• Subsidy to the Communal Union of Older Adults

In addition, there are several age-friendly initiatives that are underway and will greatly benefit the older population of Los Andes:

  • Over the next few years, the Communal Development Plan (Pladeco) Coordination Unit is being developed, which will be built in a participatory way and seeks to incorporate the vision of the whole community, including the needs of older adults.
  • The first comprehensive care center will be built for the older adult, which seeks to incorporate a group of professionals specializing in older adult issues for bio-sico-social care.
  • A working committee will be created, consisting of representatives of senior organizations, public and private services, companies, traders, etc., to develop proposals that will benefit the elderly in the field of health and safety.
  • A social program will be created that seeks to integrate the elderly with other age groups, including children, adolescents, and students, through the support and exchange of experiences and the enormous amount of knowledge that the elderly have to offer.
