Kwai Tsing District of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, China, has been one of the pioneer districts promoting Age-friendly Hong Kong since 2009.

Serving as a communication hub, Kwai Tsing District Council gives  due consideration to community affairs. We utilize our resources, and work closely with the Government as well as local organizations with a view to making Kwai Tsing a quality place for living and working. Local residents, especially the elders have been encouraged to actively participate in the programmes to increase their sense of belonging and to build a harmonious, united and age-friendly community.

A locally–driven and bottom-up approach has been adopted, with successful outcomes, in facilitating collaboration among governmental departments, non-governmental organizations, resident and community groups in promoting age friendly physical environment and social atmosphere.

A Kwai Tsing Age Friendly Community Specialized Working Group is responsible for monitoring the progress of Kwai Tsing Age Friendly Community development. Members of this working platform come from different sectors and stakeholders, and also local elderly groups.

Based on the baseline assessment findings on age friendly environment profile, an action plan will be formulated and implemented in the coming years. The progress of this action plan and also outstanding contributions by the public or private sectors in promoting the age-friendly environment will be highlighted in the Kwai Tsing Age Friendly Community Annual District Forum.
