Committed To Becoming More Age-Friendly
Karlstad Sweden
The municipality’s various administrations and companies cooperate, on safety issues, and activities that increase public health of older adults. The municipality also works actively to decrease social isolation among older adults, through various meeting places and outreach activities.
We have a pensioners’ council in the municipality where members from various committees and from pensioners’ organizations are represented. The Pensioners’ Council is a forum for citizens’ dialogue between the municipality and pensioners’ organizations in Karlstad. It is also a way for politicians to have the opportunity to inform, discuss and receive views from the pensioners’ organizations on current political issues.
In the work to become an age-friendly city and join the network, a team has been appointed. Our team consists of representatives from various administrations and companies within the municipality. This makes it easier to adress the different focus areas that the network is based on. We see a membership in the network as a way for us to, together with our older adults, create better conditions for them in the city where we live.
The baseline measurement will help us reach a wider group than those we usually reach at our advice and user dialogues. The action plan that we will then develop, we will work with for many years to come. The changes made through the action plan will benefit many older people and residents of all ages.
