Aging Well in Jefferson County is strategic planning initiative that was established through Jefferson County Human Services in 2008 and identifies the trends for the projected senior population in Jefferson County. The Vision Statement for Aging Well in Jefferson County is: “Jefferson County: A thriving community for aging well.” The Mission Statement for the project is: “To develop and implement strategies creating inclusive, livable communities through sustained partnerships and integrated Services.”

It has been a stated policy of District Attorney Peter Weir to provide the most comprehensive services to the most vulnerable in our population; the two groups targeted are children and older adults. The application of this policy, as regards older adults involves:
a.) providing an Elder Abuse Unit in the DA Office with personnel dedicated to crimes
involving At-Risk adults. The personnel dedicated to the needs of older adults
include, two prosecutors, one investigator, a victim witness specialist and, a part-time
forensic accountant;
b.) providing a Director of Crime Prevention working with the Elder Abuse Unit to
provide information and prevention materials to keep older adults from becoming
victims of crime. This results in providing crime prevention seminar for groups of
older adults throughout Jefferson County, providing a Fraud Hotline for older adults
to call with questions or concerns, and producing and placing crime prevention ads
in senior-directed media to warn against scams and fraudulent schemes;
c.) sponsoring a TRIAD Senior Safety Program. TRIAD is a national program run by the
National Sheriff’s Association and TRIAD involves partnership between representatives
from the criminal justice system, senior-service providers, and seniors themselves.
Programs are meant to provide information that will allow older adults to be safe as
they ‘age-in-place.’ The First Judicial District Attorney’s Office sponsors the only TRIAD in Colorado;
d.) The District Attorney’s Office, with partnership from many, many agencies, presents a
Senior Law Day each year. This 6-hour seminar is meant to provide older adults with
information and plans for remaining safely in their homes
