İzmir Metropolitan Municipality is committed to improving the quality of life of older adult residents through comprehensive policies and programmes that promote inclusion and address inequalities. The Municipality operates two specialised departments and a private hospital, ensuring that the diverse needs of older people are effectively met.

Zübeyde Hanım Nursing Home provides a peaceful environment for citizens aged 60 and over, focusing on their health and psychological well-being. With a capacity of 425 people, the facility supports 342 independent residents and provides specialised care for 83 people with serious illnesses. Facilities such as a library, sewing room and handicraft workshops, as well as organised sports and trips, enrich residents’ leisure time and strengthen social connections.

Through The Health and Care at Home Service, older adults are provided with personalized support, including personal care, hairdressing, house cleaning, psychological support and assistance with physical activities. This service helps older adults to maintain their independence at home and is vital for their dignity and well-being.

The Healthy Ageing Centre serves people aged 55 and over by creating a vibrant space for social interaction and physical activities. Participants can play sports, visit historical sites and attend workshops to promote active ageing and community engagement.

To enhance mobility, a discounted public transport service is offered to 60-year-olds, while adults over the age of 65 can travel free of charge within the city, easing their access to basic services.

The Alzheimer’s and Dementia Centre supports individuals with mild dementia, offering engaging activities to promote psychosocial care and well-being.

Finally, the Pensioner Solidarity Card provides essential support for water bills, rent and groceries to retired citizens in need, reflecting İzmir’s commitment to reducing inequalities and promoting an inclusive, age-friendly society for all residents.
