Committed To Becoming More Age-Friendly
Hearst Canada
In October 2011, the local Steering Committee met with Hearst Council and gave suggestions about seniors’ needs and challenges. The Council agreed to identify strategies to meet these needs and challenges. An action plan was drafted to bring improvements for more senior-friendly facilities, such as better cleaned and lighted sidewalks, more accessible information and services, more benches in town, public washrooms, community bus available on weekends, the ‘One Day at the Grocery Store’ project where seniors are brought to the grocery store and helped with their bags, and many more. As our Mayor stated, ‘Je crois en effet qu’un village ami des aînés est un village ami de tout le monde!’, which translates to ‘I believe that an Age-Friendly Town is an Everybody-Friendly Town’.
