Gongju City’s plan to develop an age-friendly city is composed of three stages: The first stage comprises efforts to develop a physical, social and legal system, establishing a comfortable living environment, and using various public activities to create an age-friendly city atmosphere.

Stage 2 is the establishment and stabilization phase. In this stage, governance is stabilized through public-private cooperation and the first stage of the plan is monitored and evaluated. Based on social consensus, an environment is formed such that all citizens participate in the age-friendly city.

Stage 3 is the mature and advanced stage. It will witness many ripple effects related to the creation of an aging-friendly city. Furthermore, it is expected that the status of Gongju will rise as the whole of Korea enters an aged society.
