Committed To Becoming More Age-Friendly
Gimje-city Republic of Korea
Gimje-city is committed to establishing policies for older adult populations, as it society continues to age. In order to create an age-friendly city, Gimje-city set its vision as a “Gimje: A 100-Year-Old City Where Adults can Live” reflecting the eight areas of the WHO guidelines, county residents’ opinions, and expert FGI results.
◦ The four major goals of the age-friendly city of Gimje-city were set as creating: a safe and convenient city; a healthy and energetic city; a city with senior job and volunteer work; and a respectful and communicative city. Forty detailed projects were derived for each of the eight major areas. Outlined below are the action areas for each major goal:
1. Safe and convenient city
– area 1 : outdoor spaces and buildings
– area 2 : transportation environment
– area 3 : residential environment
2. Healthy and energrtic city
– area 4 : communnity support and healthy
– area 5 : social participation of older adults
3. Senior job and volunteer work city
– area 6 : resident participation and employment
4. Respect and communication city
– area 7 : respect for older adults and social integration
– area 8 : communication and information
◦ The age-friendly city Gimje will continue to operate according to the policies created through public-private cooperation, and the public officials, creation committee, and a monitoring team that will be the evaluation committee. Based on mutual cooperation, the public officials of Gimje will first conduct quantitative evaluations on the achievement rate compared to the implementation goal, and secondly, county residents, including the older adults, will conduct qualitative evaluations by conducting an age-friendly survey to evaluate the sensitivity of each area.
◦ The limitations of the quantitative evaluation report will be complemented through inter-complementary multi-evaluation, and the project evaluation team will conduct a comprehensive analysis of the project every year by promoting a final co-operative meeting on the evaluation results.
