Daejeon City has been actively involved in various planning and policy initiatives for the construction of a sustainable city where all generations can coexist. In summary, these efforts can be outlined as follows:
First, in 2010, Daejeon City established ‘Senior Welfare City Daejeon 2010’, with three major strategies: (1) ensuring the safety of older persons, (2)  providing a healthy lifestyle, (3) and promoting active aging. The city implemented 33 policy projects, including longevity allowances, rental of welfare items, creation of senior parks, establishment of senior welfare centers, and operation of senior cultural and sports centers.

Second, in the more recent 4th Basic Plan for Low Birthrate and Aging Society in 2020, under the vision of ‘Building a sustainable society where all generations are happy together,’ three driving strategies were outlined: (1) ‘Building a healthy and active aging society,’ (2) ‘Creating a society where everyone’s capabilities are evenly utilized,’ and (3) ‘Adapting to changes in population structure.’ The city is implementing 64 policy projects for ensuring post-retirement income, preventive health care and medical services, creating an age-friendly living environment, and strengthening lifelong education and vocational training.

Third, conducting research projects for the formation of a more age-friendly city and joining the WHO Global Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities. Through research, we have formulated the vision of ‘Build a premier age-friendly city together with everyone.’ The age-friendly city plan was formulated, including a total of 64 detailed projects under the four major goals: (1) ‘Comfortable living environment’, (2) ‘Facilitate movement and communication’, (3) ‘A city where everyone comes together’, and  (4) ‘A vibrant community’.
