The current local government program in Renca, led by the mayor Claudio Castro Salas, is oriented towards the improvement of quality of life for the local community with an emphasis on equity, inclusion, and the promotion of participation and growth according to the following principles:

– Proud Renca: We seek to highlight and promote Renca’s identity, to allow the neighbors of Renca to regain pride in their heritage as a way of building a better future, and by recognizing older people as the treasure of our community. In our work with the older community, we have worked strongly with clubs for older people, promoting their autonomy with the program “Renca values us”, a subsidy for their own project proposals.
-Renca Grows: We aim to boost prosperity for everyone who lives in Renca through sustainable development. Some initiatives focused on older people are the improvement of paved streets, installation of new traffic lights at unsafe intersections, and in future, an electric bus for older people that will allow them to travel for free on a route to public health centers. In addition, we have promoted and strengthened autonomy, independence and active ageing by creating the Day Center for the Elderly. We have also developed training programs to help organizations to define their roles and duties and resolve their differences, which has resulted in some very successful experiences.
-Renca participates: We intend to continue building the social fabric of the community so that Renca’s inhabitants can exercise their right to be a part of the municipal administration’s decision making processes. We have worked with older people in participatory dialogues focusing on their views on how to improve housing policies, environment, mobility and transportation, security, health, education, employment and overall dignity.
